|Title/Headline:||TV Writer/Producer: Developing an original idea to pitch or spec out at Freelance|
|Minimum time:||10 minutes|
Kevin is a TV writer/producer who has sold shows and produced pilots for ABC, NBC, FX, Showtime, Amazon and Fox. After working as a professional TV/Film editor for years, Kevin transitioned to being a TV writer/producer ten years ago by creating his own TV pilot and using the opportunities afforded by that to sell an original script to Fox, which then went to pilot. His area of instruction is in helping other writers/creators develop original, dynamic show ideas with vibrant characters and rich, textured worlds. In his experience, that is the most effective way to secure representation and sell a show. He has no great business insight into how to acquire an agent or how to get them to read your script other than, first, creating dynamic, original work that effectively showcases your unique voice.This expert donates all Sidetime proceeds to Planned Parenthood.

This call is designed for someone who does not have a clear idea of what they want to write. Through a series of questions, prompts and discussions we will home in on the three things I believe lead to dynamic stories: writing about something, somewhere or someone the writer is passionate/enthusiastic about, creating characters that the writer can relate to (don't worry about being relatable to the audience yet, you're the one who has to write it) and, lastly, finding some element of the story that connects to the writer's inner life (hopes, fears, dreams, traumas). I don't subscribe to the literal "write what you know" axiom but rather "write what you can feel". It's not necessarily a linear process but it leads to exciting, vibrant results.Schedule a Call
This call is pretty straight forward: send a script before the call, I will read it and offer my creative notes and feedback on it. I am absolutely not helpful in terms of how to get a script to agents or show-runners. This is purely a creative feedback call.Schedule a Call
This call is designed for someone who has a log line and bits and pieces of story or character but doesn't know exactly how to focus it into a clear, readable narrative. Through specific questions and discussions we focus on what is the "idea behind the idea" -- that's to say, what the writer really is interested in and wants to say. Once we land on that, we then can see the existing bits and pieces through that prism and build them into a coherent story and dramatic world. The final step is laying out a clear story logic and character arc for the show so the writer has enough clarity to begin writing a script, outline or pitch (depending on their goals).Schedule a Call
